How to Get Your Medical Marijuana Card (MMJ Card)

Getting your Medical Marijuana card (MMJ card) can be extremely difficult and expensive. Even though over half of the US states have legalized cannabis in some form, they sure haven’t made it easy for patients. Each state has their own laws and regulations and they seem to change constantly.
Plus, finding a doctor on your own is time-consuming and can cost you upwards of $1000! And don’t get me started on the paperwork!
But the benefits of having your MMJ card are clear.
-
You can save thousands of dollars per year
-
You can purchase and have more cannabis at a time
-
You get to speak with a specialized cannabis doctor

So why is it so hard to find an MMJ doctor?
When I started coaching clients in the US in 2018, I remember being genuinely shocked at the situation. So, I went on a hunt for a better solution.
And I found Veriheal. They’re on a mission to connect patients with medical marijuana doctors quickly and inexpensively. To date, they've helped over 200,00 patients gain access to medical cannabis and are the largest providers of MMJ cards in the US. Plus, if you use the code: revealcannabis20 you can save $20 on your appointment.
Why not let them help you next?

Let’s go!

*Note: I don't usually use the word marijuana because of its storied origins, but many people don't realize that an MMJ card is the same as a Cannabis Card and I wanted to reach a lot of people with this post.

1. How to Get your MMJ Card in 4 Easy Steps
1. Head to Veriheal's website, choose your state and click to book an appointment.
-
I’m not kidding, it’s really that easy. In most states, your appointment can be done over the phone or computer, so there’s no need to even put on pants!
-
Don’t forget to use code: revealcannabis at checkout for additional savings
2. Meet with the doctor.
-
S/he will talk to you about what condition you’re hoping to address and will ask about any other medications you’re taking or conditions you have.
-
Based on that information, the doc will be able to give you a recommendation for cannabis. If for some reason you’re not able to receive a card, you’ll get a refund on the appointment.
3. Register with the state.
-
If you were on your own, this would be a paperwork nightmare. But, you’re not on your own! Veriheal will help you with this process.
-
Depending on your state, you’ll either be granted immediate access to your local dispensaries or you may have to wait for a physical card to come in the mail.
-
Most MMJ cards are valid for 1 year.
4. Take your recommendation (sometimes called a prescription) to the local dispensary or online and choose products based on the suggestions made by the team at Veriheal.
Seriously, it’s that simple!
2. Why you should get an MMJ card even if you live in a state where cannabis is recreationally legal

There are three main reasons to do this.

1. THE SAVINGS!!! You can save thousands of dollars by just having your card.
-
Recreational cannabis sales are taxed at 15-37%, depending on the state. That means your $15 gram of cannabis may end up costing you $20.55.
-
Assuming you consume 1 gram per day, that’s a savings of over $2,000 per YEAR!
-
When you purchase cannabis in the medical system, you’ll just have to pay your local state tax.

2. Buy, store, and grow more cannabis.
-
Your card will allow you to possess, purchase and grow more cannabis than without it.
-
That means you can stock up at dispensary sales without going over your limit, saving you even more money.
3. You get to speak with a doctor who specializes in cannabis medicine.
-
Even if you’re not taking other prescription medications, it’s great to be able to speak with a doctor and get all your questions answered.
3. What conditions qualify you for an MMJ Card?
I wish this were easier to answer. To purchase medical marijuana, a doctor must determine that you meet specific criteria that change state-by-state.
If you’re not sure if you’d qualify for a card in your state, you can visit Veriheal.com to see a complete list of your state’s qualifying conditions.
If you’re still not sure, don’t worry. Booking through Veriheal means that you’ll get your money back if you aren’t approved. No questions asked!
4. What products can you get with an MMJ Card?

It REALLY depends. As someone who works primarily with American clients in my Cannabis Consultation practice, it’s endlessly fascinating how different each state is regarding what you can purchase.
In some places, it’s wide open, and you can get every cannabis product under the sun (vaporizers, edibles, dry flower (bud), topicals, patches, capsules, concentrates, and more). Meanwhile, states like Alabama won’t even let you purchase cannabis flower. (Come ON Alabama!)
Even where you shop can vary. In many states, medical cannabis patients have access to medical-only dispensaries that may have products and strains/chemovars not available on the recreational market.
Veriheal makes it easy to find a dispensary near you with their search page online.
5. Can I purchase cannabis in other states with my MMJ card?

In most cases, yes! Unlike recreational users who can only consume in other recreational-use states, if you have your MMJ card, you can purchase cannabis at medical dispensaries with your home-state card. After all, physicians back MMJ cardholders because they believe the plant can help.
So, head to a new state and see what they have on the menu. I guarantee it will shock you how differently each state operates.
CANNA-ROAD TRIP TIME!
6. How much does an MMJ Card cost?

Here’s the jaw-dropping news: Rather than paying upwards of $1,000 to see a cannabis doctor, Veriheal has a low annual fee of at most $199, and you can save $20 off with code: revealcannabis20 at checkout.
Along with the low cost, you’ll also have 24/7 access to customer service through chat, phone and email support, unlike a traditional doctor’s office. And remember, if you don’t get your card, you don’t pay for the appointment.
